Mount Kilimanjaro

Updated: Feb 8, 2021

7th February 2021

UK COVID Deaths – Daily 373 / 7-Day average 901

Total UK COVID Deaths within 28 days – 111,465

Total UK Deaths with COVID-19 on the death certificate – 112,660 (up to 22nd Jan)

James Cook Hospital – Total COVID deaths – 547

No medical update today as Nicky and I are enjoying another rare weekend off together. Within the space of two weeks it has been my son’s birthday, my birthday and now, my younger daughter’s birthday. Even I am beginning to realise that it may be possible to have too much cake!

The reason I am writing is to shamelessly promote a charity fundraising event that our Intensive Care Unit is taking part in. A group made up of nurses, doctors, physios, ward clerks and other ICU staff is raising money for Tearfund, a charity that is helping the world’s poorest nations cope with the impact of the pandemic.

They are working in teams to perform a virtual stair-climb challenge. The target is for each team to mimic climbing to a height of 5.8km, the same height as Mount Kilimanjaro.

Many thanks for your support.

Birthday wishes to all who have celebrated, you can never have too much cake, if this raises spirits. The challenge sounds amazing and would have guessed that all staff will have climbed higher than Kilimanjaro during these past months of such arduous work. But yes good luck with JustGiving fund raising.
